A Pandal-Hopping Guide

How to actually do it without losing the night to a queue

Pandal hopping is a Kolkata verb. Done badly it is five hours in a queue; done well it is one of the great walks in any Indian city. The rules are simple and locals follow all of them.

Go on Chaturthi or Panchami, before the official start, when the pandals are finished but the crowds have not arrived. Use the metro. Pick one part of the city per night and walk it. And eat as you go.
