The main retail market of South Kolkata, at the Gariahat crossing where Rashbehari Avenue meets Gariahat Road. Saree houses on the corners, a covered market for fish and vegetables behind, and pavement stalls running for several hundred metres in every direction selling the same goods cheaper.
In the weeks before Durga Puja it becomes almost impassable, and that is when the trade makes its year.

Worth knowing before you go
- Mornings for fish, evenings for clothes.
- The pavement sells what the shops sell, cheaper, with bargaining.
- Before Durga Puja it is impassable. Go in July or go very early.
- It is walkable from Kalighat and Rabindra Sarobar metro stations.
