A large north-central Kolkata market, known particularly for fish and for the wholesale vegetable trade that feeds much of the northern half of the city. It is a working market rather than a shopping destination.

Worth knowing before you go
- Early morning is the whole point; the wholesale trade is done by eight.
- Hilsa season, roughly July to September, is when the fish section is worth seeing.
- It is a working market, not set up for visitors.
