Under the Howrah Bridge on the Kolkata bank, the largest flower market in eastern India and one of the largest in Asia, trading since 1855. Marigold, tuberose, lotus, rose and jasmine arrive overnight from the districts and are sold in garlands and by weight from before dawn.
It works between about four and nine in the morning. After that it is over.

Worth knowing before you go
- Four to nine in the morning. There is no afternoon trade.
- Durga Puja and the wedding season are when it is at full stretch.
- Photography of the Howrah Bridge itself is officially restricted; the market is fine.
- It is muddy and crowded. Wear shoes you do not mind ruining.
