The planned city. Salt Lake was built on reclaimed marsh from the 1960s; Sector V became the IT district; New Town and Rajarhat came after 2000. Tangra sits at the western edge of it — the old tannery district that became Kolkata’s Chinatown, and the only place in India where Chinese-Indian cooking has its own neighbourhood.
